Virtual Reality and Application of Virtual Reality
Application of Virtual Reality: We are aware of the words ‘Virtual’ which means near and ‘Reality’ means the experience we observe as a human being. So, the term Virtual reality means near-reality. However, today it is a type of reality simulation that involves presenting our senses with a computer-generated virtual environment that we can explore. Here you are going to acknowledge several applications of Virtual Reality but first, let us tell you what virtual reality (VR) means.
What is Virtual Reality (VR)?
Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a three-dimensional (3D) simulated environment. It creates an immersive illusion that makes the user perform a series of actions. It can also feel the senses such as vision, touch, hearing, and smell. Today there is much application of virtual reality that can help in different fields like education, medical, etc.
Application of Virtual Reality
VR can be used in many different fields like medicine, engineering, education, design, training, and entertainment. We can play amazing games in the 3D simulation environment.
VR use in military
UK and US have been using VR in their training as it helps them to undertake a huge range of simulations. The military can use VR in the flight simulation, battlefield simulation, vehicle simulation, virtual boot camp, etc.
Teaching Medical Students
It can help the students to learn how to carry out delicate surgical procedures. As for a medical student performing surgeries is very risky. Therefore, VR helps students perform real surgeries but not risking the lives of any patients.
Treating Mental Health
The medical experts can use functional apps combined with VR technology. So, it can be easy to monitor anxiety in the patients as well as their breathing patterns and by that giving them the proper medication
Tour and Travel
With the help of VR technology, clients can experience various holiday destinations in a virtual setting before making their own travel choices.
Recruitment and Training
It can help potential employees to experience a typical work environment. So, they can be prepared to offer the best solution for future challenges.
Fashion
It can allow customers to try clothes virtually as well as offers a 360-degree experience to fashion shows.

Virtual Reality (VR) vs Augmented Reality (AR)
In Augmented Reality simulates computer-generated objects in the real environment. AR uses the sensors and algorithms to determine the position and direction of the camera, for example, PokemonGO. Moreover, VR is occupied by the simulated environment. It uses similar sensors and math, for example, is amazing for gaming and watching videos with a 3D effect.
VR Headset
A VR headset is a head-worn display that covers users’ eyes to provide a simulating 3D environment such as Google Cardboard. Some of the best VR headsets are – Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, and many more.
How does VR Headset work?
VR headsets are a kind of Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs). Putting your face in front of the smartphone is enough to get you half-involved in the virtual world. It’s all about creating a 3D environment, so that in what so ever direction you are moving the screen mount to your face will follow you.
- Head Tracking – When you wear a VR headset, the video in front of you will move the same as your position. For example: As you look up, down, right, or left it will move with you. The head movements can be measure with a system called 6DoF (six degrees of freedom), thus the system plot your head in X, Y, and Z-axis.
- Motion Tracking – It is based on light and mirror that uses a beam projector to track down the user’s positions. Infrared sensors can be useful to track down the hand-movements.
- Eye Tracking – Infrared sensors can also be useful for monitoring users’ eyes inside the headset. So, that it’s easy to know where your eyes are looking in the virtual reality.
Conclusion
Today, technology has become so advanced that in a simulated environment we can easily feel our senses. We can experience the virtual environment as if we are there. In the future, we can see so much more innovative technologies adding up to the application of virtual reality as well as many other uses which will be beneficial for humankind.
