Virtual Reality (VR)  vs  Augmented Reality (AR)

In Augmented Reality simulates computer-generated objects in the real environment. AR uses the sensors and algorithms to determine the position and direction of the camera, for example, PokemonGO. Moreover, VR  is occupied by the simulated environment. It uses similar sensors and math, for example, is amazing for gaming and watching videos with a 3D effect.

VR Headset

A VR headset is a head-worn display that covers users’ eyes to provide a simulating 3D environment such as Google Cardboard. Some of the best VR headsets are – Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, and many more.

How does VR Headset work?

VR headsets are a kind of Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs). Putting your face in front of the smartphone is enough to get you half-involved in the virtual world. It’s all about creating a 3D environment, so that in what so ever direction you are moving the screen mount to your face will follow you.

  • Head Tracking – When you wear a VR headset, the video in front of you will move the same as your position. For example: As you look up, down, right, or left it will move with you. The head movements can be measure with a system called 6DoF (six degrees of freedom), thus the system plot your head in X, Y, and Z-axis.
  • Motion Tracking – It is based on light and mirror that uses a beam projector to track down the user’s positions. Infrared sensors can be useful to track down the hand-movements.
  • Eye Tracking – Infrared sensors can also be useful for monitoring users’ eyes inside the headset. So, that it’s easy to know where your eyes are looking in the virtual reality.
