- The Hong Kong region is a small, loss-making market for the company and it had attracted only 150,000 users last August.
- TikTok was violating guidelines by targeting videos related to pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong last year.
- Besides, it was showing shocking or sensational content like the mistreatment of Muslims in China’s Xinjiang region and clashes at the India-China border.
- China’s parliament passed sweeping new national security legislation. It is for the semi-autonomous city. Hence, TikTok has been facing persistent allegations due to its decisions on content align with Beijing’s priorities.
Now, TikTok is run by the former executive of Walt Disney named Kevin Mayer. He confirms that the app’s user data was not stored in China.
It was one of the largest and preeminent applications. TikTok along with 59 Chinese apps has ban form India. The reason is the deadly border clash in the Himalayas in between India vs China.
